“EDUCATION IS THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON WHICH YOU CAN USE TO CHANGE THE WORLD.”
- NELSON MANDELA

Our students, though quite young, seem to fully understand that getting an education is very important for them. They are amazing, so disciplined and always positive.

Building Project Cannan Academy

PROJECT CANAAN ACADEMY

Our school is a Christ-centered learning environment, from Pre-school through Grade 12, that is specially designed to empower and inspire students to develop to their potential intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually so that they can be the future leaders of Eswatini. The Project Canaan Academy mascot is a lion and his name is Aslan, of course!

Let’s Build

Our Preschool, Kindergarten and the buildings for Grades 1 – 5 have been built. We need to build our Grade 6 classrooms by December 2023 for our 2024 school year. Would you help us reach this milestone?

In 2022, 75% of our students improved in Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing, and our school had a 100% promotion rate. Our students are loving robotics, the life skills program, fine arts and the sports programs. There are 262 students currently enrolled for 2023.

This is designed as a Christian learning program that serves a diverse range of students including orphans and vulnerable children. The majority of these students have been in the care of Heart for Africa (Canada) since they were infants at Project Canaan. The school implements a hands-on, project-based approach to instruction. We adhere to a philosophy that addresses the needs of the whole child as well as practicing current, research-based education with an emphasis on Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences (MI) theory. MI theory is a way of explaining how children learn, emphasizing the diverse abilities of children and the need to assess learning using multi- dimensional evaluations. Our plan is to carefully monitor and support growth in each of these facets. We have a commitment to train up the solution-seekers and leaders who will bring positive impact to Eswatini, Africa and the world.

2018

Project Canaan Academy gained accreditation through the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa.

Children living in poverty and less likely to receive an education and can experience physical and cognitive delays. Poverty, and the stress that comes with it, has been shown to negatively impact a student’s ability to learn and succeed in school (NASSP).

Multiple studies published since 1990, including this study from Stanford University and Munich’s Ludwig Maximilian University, have shown a strong correlation between education and economic growth. Education has been proven to increase income, improve health, and survival of families.

By working to provide an education to orphans and vulnerable children in Eswatini, we are working to break the inter-generational cycle of poverty in Eswatini.
