Each participant will be encouraged to maintain a group mindset throughout your trip. We want to ensure that everyone has a great experience, and we make preparations based on what is best for the group. As Project Canaan grows, specifically our children’s campus, we must make modifications that are going to best serve those on and off the property, as well as provide consistency and structure for the schedules our staff has worked so diligently to put in place. We appreciate your understanding as we strive to improve your trip experience!

The Khutsala™ Artisan shop on Project Canaan will be open multiple times throughout the week, so you will be able to stock up on our beautiful Khutsala and Kufundza products. Our jewelry, Christmas ornaments, charcuterie boards and many other home items are all handmade on site, providing employment for our neighboring communities. All profits are used to further our mission of self-sustainability and to provide care for the 350+ children living on Project Canaan. These make great gifts or souvenirs, and each purchase truly makes an impact! You will also have one day “off property” where you will visit a local game drive and have a chance to do some shopping at a local market.
The trip cost will include ground costs of $2,480 CAD and the airline ticket cost from Atlanta to Johannesburg of $5040 CAD, if you are booking your ticket through Heart for Africa (Canada). For costs or flights through another city, please contact our Trip Coordinator.
If making your travel arrangements through Heart for Africa (Canada), you will depart Canada on November 18th and arrive in Johannesburg, South Africa on November 19th. At the conclusion of the trip, you will depart Johannesburg November 27th and arrive in Canada on November 28th.
The costs of the trips include lodging, meals, supplies, ground transportation, administrative fees and airfare (if you have elected for us to arrange the air-portion of your trip). Due to cost and exchange rate adjustments, any remaining funds will go toward general support of the mission
*Please note: The cost with airfare is based on our blocked seating rate with the airlines. Volunteers must register with air and meet the $1,000 funding deadline by July 31, 2023 in order to get the blocked seating rate. For registrations after this date, we will book individual tickets at the regular published fare at the time. If we do not have more than ten people sign up with airfare by our block seating deadline, we cannot keep our block and we will need to book individual tickets. The total trip cost my change according to airline rates at the time.
If you are self-booking your airfare (not booking through Heart for Africa (Canada)), you will need to coordinate your arrival and departure in South Africa with us in order to join the rest of the team. Please contact our Trip Coordinator with your travel arrangements.
