A Longstanding Partnership
Egg Farmers of Canada and Heart for Africa (Canada) launch the Egg Project. A project team of Canadian egg farmers design and develop the farm's plan.
Construction begins on two egg barns at Project Canaan.
The first barn is complete, and the first flock arrives (January).
Canadian egg farmers travel to Eswatini to train the local staff.
Eggs become a staple food for the kids at Project Canaan. Each egg delivers 13 essential vitamins and nutrients, including high-quality protein. Sanovo egg cooker equipment is installed (May) and is partially powered by solar energy. The second barn welcomes its first flock (July).
3,200 children receive nutritious eggs each week through the community feeding program.
Saskatchewan Egg Producers donate a new truck for the 3,500 km delivery route to communities across Eswatini.
Egg Farmers of Canada and Heart for Africa (Canada) celebrate 5 years of partnership.
With schools closing during the COVID-19 pandemic, children lost access to regular school feeding programs, increasing food insecurity and demand for eggs. Canadian egg farmers continued fundraising for the project.
The number of children being fed continues to increase due to the COVID pandemic, ultimately increasing to 6,500 children fed weekly.
New solar equipment is installed (226 kW) that powers much of the farm during daylight hours, including offsetting grid usage for the Sanovo chiller when used during the day.
Egg Farmers of Canada and Heart for Africa (Canada) celebrate a decade of partnership.
16 million eggs produced since 2016.
